Oriana Masternak – skrzypaczka, kameralistka, profesor sztuki, Kierownik Katedry Skrzypiec i Altówki Akademii Muzycznej im. Krzysztofa Pendereckiego w Krakowie. Tytuł profesora otrzymała w wieku 39 lat, będąc jedną z najmłodszych osób w Polsce uhonorowanych tym tytułem.
Artystka ceniona za wyjątkową wrażliwość interpretacyjną oraz głębokie rozumienie repertuaru, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem muzyki polskiej – zarówno odkrywanej na nowo, jak i najnowszej. Koncertuje w Europie, obu Amerykach i Azji, występując m.in. w Musikverein w Wiedniu, Carnegie Hall w Nowym Jorku, Muzeum Puszkina w Moskwie oraz na prestiżowych festiwalach, takich jak Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Carinthischer Sommer, Pacific Music Festival, Warszawska Jesień czy Sacrum Profanum. Ma na koncie blisko 40 prawykonań utworów współczesnych. Od 2014 roku jest członkinią Messages Quartet – jednego z czołowych polskich kwartetów smyczkowych.
Laureatka licznych nagród krajowych i międzynarodowych, stypendystka m.in. Ministerstwa Kultury, programu „Młoda Polska”, European Chamber Music Academy oraz Yale School of Music. Wielokrotnie nominowana do nagrody Fryderyk i Koryfeusz Muzyki Polskiej, laureatka „Muzycznych Orłów” (2022, 2024) oraz odznaczona Odznaką Honorową „Zasłużony dla Kultury Polskiej” (2023).
Studiowała w Krakowie, Brukseli, Wiedniu oraz w Yale School of Music. Jej pedagogami byli m.in. Johannes Meissl, Katalin Sebestyen, Roman Reiner, Małgorzata Skorupa oraz członkowie Tokyo Quartet. Posiada bogaty dorobek fonograficzny (ponad 15 albumów) wydanych przez DUX, Acte Prealable, SOLITON i UMFC. Regularnie współpracuje z Polskim Radiem i mediami.
Równolegle z działalnością koncertową prowadzi aktywną pracę pedagogiczną i organizacyjną – prowadzi kursy mistrzowskie w kraju i za granicą, inicjuje projekty artystyczne i edukacyjne oraz zasiada w jury najważniejszych polskich konkursów skrzypcowych, m.in. Ogólnopolskiego Konkursu Skrzypcowego im. E. Umińskiej i Ogólnopolskiego Konkursu Skrzypcowego im. Z. Jahnkego. Jej zainteresowania artystyczne i badawcze koncentrują się wokół muzyki polskiej i tradycji krakowskiej szkoły skrzypcowej. W 2024 roku otrzymała prestiżowy grant Narodowego Centrum Nauki na projekt badawczy poświęcony temu zagadnieniu.
W swojej pracy artystycznej i pedagogicznej kieruje się przekonaniem, że wykonawstwo jest formą odpowiedzialnego dialogu z dziełem – opartego na świadomości stylistycznej, pogłębionej wiedzy i poszukiwaniu autentycznego przekazu. Łączy dbałość o warsztat z troską o indywidualność artystyczną i wolność wypowiedzi młodych muzyków.

Oriana Masternak is a violinist, chamber musician and Professor of Music, Head of the Violin and Viola Department at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków. She received the title of Professor at the age of 39, becoming one of the youngest professors in Poland.
She is widely admired for her artistic sensitivity and interpretative depth, with a particular focus on Polish repertoire, both rediscovered works and contemporary music. She performs throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia, appearing in prestigious venues such as the Musikverein in Vienna, Carnegie Hall in New York and the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, as well as at leading festivals including
Carinthischer Sommer, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Pacific Music Festival, Warsaw Autumn and Sacrum Profanum. She has given nearly 40 world premieres of contemporary compositions. Since 2014 she has been a member of Messages Quartet, one of Poland’s leading string quartets.
A laureate of numerous national and international competitions, she has received scholarships from major cultural institutions including the Polish Ministry of Culture, the “Young Poland” Programme, European Chamber Music Academy and Yale School of Music. She is a multiple nominee for the Fryderyk Awards, a laureate of the prestigious “Musical Eagles” Award (2022, 2024), and in 2023 was awarded the Honorary Badge “Meritorious for Polish Culture”.
She studied in Kraków, Brussels, Vienna and at Yale School of Music. Her teachers include Johannes Meissl, Katalin Sebestyen, Roman Reiner, Małgorzata Skorupa and members of the Tokyo Quartet. Her extensive discography includes over 15 albums released by labels such as DUX, Acte Prealable, SOLITON and UMFC. She collaborates regularly with Polish Radio and appears frequently in the media.
Alongside her concert career, she is actively engaged in pedagogy and artistic leadership. She gives masterclasses in Poland and abroad, initiates educational and artistic projects, and serves as a jury member of the most important Polish violin competitions, including the International Eugenia Umińska Violin Competition and the Zdzisław Jahnke Violin Competition. Her artistic and scholarly interests focus on Polish music and the tradition of the Kraków violin school. In 2024 she received a prestigious National Science Centre grant for a research project devoted to this field.
In her artistic and pedagogical work, she believes that performance is a form of responsible dialogue with the musical work – rooted in stylistic awareness, deep knowledge and the search for authenticity. Her teaching combines technical excellence with care for artistic individuality and creative freedom.
